Designing qualitative and quantitative research
The research team at Reveal has competencies in designing research protocols and tools for qualitative and quantitative research. The team has expertise and experience designing and conducting Baseline surveys, evaluations and KAP (Knowledge, Attitudes and Practice) studies in the Health (Family planning, Sexual and Reproductive Health, HIV), Gender and Violence, Migration, Education, Energy and the Judicial sectors. The team also has expertise and experience doing research with refugees, migrants, children, youth and Adolescents.
Programming tools for mobile data collection
We have knowledge experience of using both ODK and Survey-to-go data collection software and have staff trained in scripting/programming for mobile data collection surveys.
Managing collection for quantitative and qualitative research
Reveal provides market-leading expertise for both quantitative and qualitative data collection with a range different stakeholder. Reveal has developed a core team enumerators, moderators, transcribers, translators and recruiters in different regions of the country. These teams have experience in conducting both qualitative and quantitative research. Every project is managed by a coordinator, manager and a data manager. These are supported by a team of data validators, field supervisors and enumerators. Our standard measures to ensure quality include quality recruitment criteria, training of enumerators, in-class and field tests, accompanying interviews, spot checks, back checks, daily data validation, debriefs and updates.
Management and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data
We have both qualitative and quantitative knowledge and skills. The team is comfortable with data analysis packages of Epi-info/data, SPSS, STATA and Atlas ti.
Back-to-back translation of questionnaires
From the pool of research assistants and associates we have collected over the years, we are able to conduct translations of any local language in the country in the shortest time possible. Back-to-backtranslations are conducted by two pairs of teams that are not aware of each other. One team translates the questionnaires from English into the local language and another translates the local language questionnaire into English. The translated tools are checked for consistencies and inconsistencies in the key survey terminologies by a qualified and experienced personnel at the school of languages at one of the Universities. We encourage pre-testing of the translated questionnaires with members of the study target group so as to gather information on the ease or difficulty of statement, comprehension, level of discomfort and social desirability.
Data entry
This is conducted by competent and carefully selected data entrants or assistants. Reveal is able to use different soft wares as required or needed by the client. These include, Epidata, access, excel among others. All our data assistants are competent and comfortable with any. Data entry in Kampala can be conducted at our office premises. Data entrants can be provided with space in the different regions if such space is not available at the client premises.
Data Transcription
Audio recordings of interviews are listened to carefully and transcribed verbatim (word for-word) into Microsoft Word in the language of the interview and then translated into English by the trained qualitative researchers— fluent in both English and local language being transcribed. The translations take a meaning-based approach from the original language into English. Quality criteria for the translations is comprehensibility (relating to culture-specific concepts), appropriateness (in content and approach) and accuracy (faithful to the source text and key facts). Transcription guideline are developed, in collaboration with the client, and issued to each of the transcriber—to help guide in the transcription process.
Research labour services
Research and Data Assistants are largely drawn from the pool of eligible researchers that we have worked with on previously assignments. Over the years, Reveal has recruited, trained and deployed research assistants from different regions of the country. Reveal has a pull of research and data assistants that are residents within the different regions hence are well versed with the conditions and environment of those areas. We deliver certified social researchers with CITI certifications and well versed with data quality control process and other relevant data management protocols.
Pay Roll services
Through our payroll services, we facilitate the process of recruiting labour for data collection, data entry and field management. Under the payroll services, Reveal is responsible for managing payroll, taxes, government documents, benefits, and insurance. Reveal Payroll Services may depend on certain factors, including, without limitation, the estimated length of the engagement, the wage to be paid, and the nature of the work to be performed.
